USES

  • Reduce sauce with fried chicken steaks

  • Donburi (Japanese rice bowl with simmered meat & vegetables on top)


INGREDENTS for 16oz

  • Ginger, minced - 2 Tbsp

  • Onion, medium - 1, julienned

Spice rack & Baking aisle

  • Sugar or rock sugar - 3 Tbsp

International aisle

  • Soy sauce - 1/3 cup

  • Mirin - 1/3 cup

DIRECTIONS

  1. In a small sauce pan, combine all the ingredients and cook over medium heat. Stir frequently to ensure nothing sticks at the bottom.

  2. Once the mixture boils, change the heat to low. Let the sauce simmer until the onions are soft and translucent.

  3. Strain out the onions from the sauce and set aside. Sauce can be used right away. Transfer the remaining sauce to a sealed jar and refrigerate for up to 4 weeks. Use the onions in stir fries or tossed.
